After careful evaluation, the scientific committee of the Swiss Tourism Awards then selected the city of Walvis Bay and awarded the prize:
Walvis Bay is an oasis flanked by the golden dunes of the Namib Desert and the shimmering currents of the Atlantic Ocean. The casual visitor is always captivated by the wide open spaces, the opportunity for sport fishing and enjoying unique flora and fauna. The world-famous lagoon is a Ramsar site and is home to up to 200,000 birds including flamingos, pelicans, terns, gulls and other birds. The more adventurous may choose to explore the dunes on a quad bike, catch whaler sharks, ride the waves with a kite board, fly a hang glider over the desert or go on sea excursions with seals and dolphins. Walvis Bay is also endowed with a well-developed fishing industry, an emerging engineering sector and an extensive transportation network to all major African markets, making it an extremely attractive destination. Whether you simply consider yourself a discerning traveler or an investor with keen business acumen, Walvis Bay offers a refreshing experience, unforgettable memories and unsurpassed investment potential.
No wonder Walvis Bay is known as the “island of opportunity.”
