Zagreb – Croatia

After careful evaluation, the scientific committee of the Swiss Tourism Awards has chosen the County of Zagreb as the winner in the category:

Destination of Excellence

The rationale behind this selection is: “for its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant local traditions, Zagreb County is the heart of Croatia, where every corner tells a story”.

Located at the crossroads of Central Europe, the city offers a unique mix of medieval charm and contemporary flair, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both tradition and innovation.

Zagreb’s historic old town, with its cobblestone streets, baroque buildings, and stunning cathedrals, provides a captivating glimpse into the city’s past. Landmarks like the Zagreb Cathedral and St. Mark’s Church, alongside the lively Ban Jelačić Square, create a picturesque setting for exploration. The city’s museums and galleries, such as the Museum of Broken Relationships, offer fascinating cultural experiences that highlight Zagreb’s creative spirit.

Beyond its cultural heritage, Zagreb also impresses with its modern infrastructure, welcoming hospitality, and vibrant food scene. The city boasts a wide range of restaurants, cafés, and bars, offering both traditional Croatian dishes and international cuisine.

Zagreb is also known for its green spaces, including Maksimir Park and the Medvednica Mountain, which offer outdoor activities and relaxation. With its perfect combination of historical charm, modern energy, and top-notch service, Zagreb truly stands out as a “Destination of Excellence.”
