After careful evaluation, the Swiss Tourism Awards Scientific Committee then selected the city of Podgorica and awarded the prize:

“Fascinating city with enormous tourism potential.”

Located in the north of Namibia Tsumeb is one of the country’s largest towns and, given its proximity to Etosha National Park, is a must for those who want to visit this area made fascinating by the presence of wild animals.

Tsumeb is a fairly prosperous town due to the mineral deposits it is rich in and which have made it famous especially among collectors, in fact it boasts a variety of as many as 184 minerals found in the area, 10 of which are unknown elsewhere. Therefore, it is of great interest to visit the Tsumeb Mining Museum, which holds a large collection of them, as well as local machinery and handicrafts.
Wanting to buy a few items, one can go instead to the Local Handicrafts Center while at Tsumeb Cultural Village one can see examples of the dwellings and traditions of local peoples. A Catholic Church dating from the early 1900s, featuring a somewhat bizarre bell tower and colonial-era paintings, is dedicated to St. Barbara, patron saint of miners. Nearby Lake Guinas offers an opportunity to relax and bathe since the climate is pleasantly mild compared to the rest of Namibia.

This is actually a place that is little known and should be enhanced, as indeed the prestigious Swiss Tourist Awards attempted to do when in 2009 it awarded it the accolade of “Fascinating City with Enormous Tourist Potential” in the Destinations to Discover category.”
