After careful evaluation, the scientific committee of the Swiss Tourism Awards then selected the city of Ankara and awarded the prize:

“Wonderful university town with thousands of facets.”

Ankara, formerly also known as “Angora,” is the Turkish capital, recently received the distinguished tourism award, it is the “Swiss Tourism Award,” it has been called a university city with a thousand faces, this is the motivation. In fact, the city really has a polyformity uncommon with other Turkish urban centers; it sits on a rocky hillside, perched at the foot of the high Anatolian plateau; the landscape is among the driest in Turkey, and this is mainly due to the continental climate that causes dry and arid summers, while the winters are harsh and snowy.

The economy is based on sheep’s wool, “mohair wool” (also called Angora wool) is very famous, but above all on tourism, in fact the hospitality and offerings in this place is an excellence, the resorts are really many and all of the highest quality. This land has much to say historically, this is mainly due to the Greco-Roman and Byzantine rule, among the most representative monuments is the time of Rome and Augustus.

There is certainly no shortage of resorts in Ankara, it is still a university town so, young people from other places in Turkey converge right here to continue their education, tourists are fascinated by the various contrasting realities, so close but, at the same time, light years apart, so many microcosms coexisting.
